Hanover Shopping and Hanover Shopping Districts
(Hanover, Lower Saxony, Germany, DE)
Central Hanover is home to a fairly compact city centre, where you will find many modern shops and pedestrianised zones. Ideal for all kinds of shopping, Hanover city centre is rarely quiet and full of international fashion, designer names and many local shops specialising in quality German souvenirs, particularly around the Old Quarter, Linden district and List area.
For those who prefer to spend time shopping for a bargain, Hanover features a regular flea market, which takes place every Saturday morning without fail. The city's popular flea market is located on Leinepromenade, close to the Historisches Museum and alongside the Leine River Canal.
Hanover Shopping: When to Shop / Opening Hours - Hanover, Germany, DE
Following a welcomed relaxation in Germany shopping laws, some shops in Hanover are now open until as late at 20:00 Monday through Saturday, although many do choose to close earlier. However, Sunday is not a day for shopping and most are not permitted to open, with the exception of bakeries, some newsagents and petrol stations, a number of which feature grocery store areas.
Hanover Shopping: Where to Shop - Hanover, Germany, DE
Some of the best shopping in Hanover lies around the traffic-free areas on the southern side of the Hauptbahnhof train station and along the Passerelle 'shopping mile'. Also in this part of Hanover, plenty of shops are located along the bustling streets of Bahnhofstrasee, Karmarschstrasse and Georgstrasse, close to Georgplatz, Raschplatz, Steintor, the central Kröpcke square and the Opera House. Here you will find most things that your heart could possibly desire, including department stores offering plenty of gifts to cram into your suitcase.
Window shopping galore is to be found along the recently revitalised Niki de Sainte Phalle Promenade, which has become an appealing place to browse and spend your holiday money in the city of Hanover. Further shops line much of the Lister Meile stretch and along other neighbouring boulevards, while for fresh local produce at its best, a trip to Hanover's Market Hall (Markthalle) is in order.
